The words 'Edinburgh' and 'Festival' have been bosom buddies for 60 years now. What started with the annual August trio of the Edinburgh International Festival, the Festival Fringe and the Film Festival has grown over the years to embrace the Military Tattoo, Book Festival, Jazz Festival, Art Festival and the Edinburgh Mela.
It all kicks off in the spring with Ceilidh Culture, the Easter Festival and the Science Festival. You've just time to catch your breath when it's the Children's Festival with the world's best theatre and shows geared specifically to younger audiences.
The end of the year and the start of the next one are marked in style, first at Edinburgh's Christmas with its festive markets, funfairs and skating rink, then at Edinburgh's Hogmanay, where the world comes together to party.
Here's a short video from the celebrations over the last 10 years, and hopefully this gives you a taster of what to expect this year.
