What's on in Edinburgh in August


The words 'Edinburgh' and 'Festival' have been bosom buddies for 60 years now. What started with the annual August trio of the Edinburgh International Festival, the Festival Fringe and the Film Festival has grown over the years to embrace the Military Tattoo, Book Festival, Jazz Festival, Art Festival and the Edinburgh Mela.

Edinburgh Art Festival 2008 - 24th July - 31st August 2008
The Edinburgh Art Festival highlights the importance of the visual arts to Edinburgh at a time when it stages one of the world's foremost cultural events in August.

Edinburgh Military Tattoo 2008 - 1st - 23rd August 2008
Scotland's stunning annual outdoor military spectacular set against the magnificent backdrop of Edinburgh Castle.

Edinburgh International Book Festival 2008 - 9th - 25th August 2008
Edinburgh International Book Festival is the world's biggest book festival. It presents a wide and varied programme for both adults and children including author discussions, readings, lectures, debates and workshops, all in one of Edinburgh's most beautiful spaces, Charlotte Square Gardens.

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2008 - 3rd - 25th August 2008
Anyone can take part in the Edinburgh Fringe, the biggest open arts festival in the world. Last year the Fringe presented over 1,800 shows in almost 250 venues, hosted over 1000 talent scouts, 1500 accredited members of the media who wrote 3800 reviews and there was over 1.2 Million tickets sales. It's the largest open arts market in the world, so come and join in!

Edinburgh International Festival 2008 - 8th - 31st August 2008
One of the greatest celebrations of the arts, the Festival offers a unique opportunity to experience the excitement of live performance by internationally renowned artists as well as the joy of discovering new and unfamiliar works.
