The Smart City Hostel has to be one of the best Hostels I've ever stayed at. We had a 5-Person shared room. Surprisingly, the spacious room had two additional rooms: An en-suite toilet and a shower! Also, every bed has a medium-size locker to store things such as small backpacks. You should bring your own lock though (or you can buy one at reception)
The staff are very friendly. I felt welcome from the first second on.
There is a luggage room, a (big) guest kitchen, internet access (1Pound for 20 mins, and there's an internet café right next door as well), a cell-phone charging-station, a café where you can buy breakfast, and even an elevator to each floor. I would prefer this hostel to any hotel in the city.
The hostel is located just a 1 minute walk from the Royal Mile and about a 5 Minute walk from Princes street (main shopping street) and the train station. If you're looking for nightlife: This hostel is the place to go. It is located on a street right off Cowgate. There is many clubs and pubs on Cowgate, but still the hostel is quite quiet.

Smart CIty was very good value and a pleasant find amongst hostels. Each room had a locker per bed where you could store a medium sized suitcase securely (need to bring your own lock) and the beds were adequate - stable and had ladders to climb safely up to the top bunks. We were in a 8 person share room and the rooms had their own showers and toilets but also a communal bathroom. If going back to Edinburgh and looking for hostel accomodation I would book this place immediately. I actually stayed at another hostel as well at the end of my tour (booked before I had stayed at this one and realsied how good it was) and had a horrific time, which has probably made this one seem even better.

Simply put, this hostel is awesome. The check-in and other procedures are the same as hostels everywhere. However, what makes this hostel stand out is the luxury and cleanliness, as well as the facilities available for guests. I stayed for two nights in a 12 bed mix dorm ensuite. The room actually had a shower and toilet on each side of the room so basically 4 rooms inside your actually room for washroom facilities. The room was cleaned everyday. They have full kitchen facilities where you can bring groceries and cook your own food. They don't have included breakfast and I didn't purchase it but it looked good though. They have a well decked out area to eat food and a relaxation area with booths and leather couches and flat screen tvs. Pool tables as well. Fully stocked bar. Guests are even allowed to bring their own liquor and drink in the lounge. Centrally located in Edinburgh as well and very cheap price"Why waste money on a hotel!"

Edinburgh is a city that you have to get out and enjoy. There's so much to see and do, why spend it inside a pricey hotel room? I spent two nights, cost me 12 pounds (about $18) a night for a 4 bed ,all female floor. Fantastic

Booked this hostel for 2 nights based on positive reviews from this site and I was not disappointed as compared to other hostels I stayed at during my trip, this was definitely the best.

Stayed at Smart City Hotels for 2 nights at the end of Jan. The accommodation was clean and to a excellent standard. The buffet breakfast was spot on and the bar and seating area perfect if you want to chill. Overall I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone reading this review. You'll be hard to beat it!

This was a hostel?? The only way you could tell was by the bunk beds in the room! It was clean and modern, and the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. The showers are big and I love that towels are included.
Awesome hostel!"

I have nevered stayed in a hostel before, but my husband and I were only in Edinburgh for 3 nights so we thought it was the cheapest way to go. When we booked our single room we were told were would be sleeping in bunk beds (which i wasnt too pleased with, but oh well!) only to find when we got there we had a double bed! Our room was spotless and very modern, and the bathroom was great with a huge powerful shower!
